Dubset signs deal with Spotify to upload user-generated mixes


Written by Music Business Worldwide — Dubset has inked an agreement with Spotify which it says will ‘dramatically expand the global footprint of its MixBANK distribution platform’.

The news comes two months after Dubset signed a similar agreement with Apple Music, and means that reams of DJ-generated and user-generated mixes will now begin appearing on Spotify.

Using MixBank, Dubset says it can identify the copyrighted music used within a mix and clear the use of that music through the appropriate labels and publishers.

As such, Dubset says the new Spotify deal will “create a brand new revenue stream for the artists whose recordings are sampled and the DJs who create the mixes and remixes”.

“This is a major milestone for DJs and music fans all over the world,” said Stephen White, Dubset CEO.

“Our technology platform makes it possible for us to identify and pay rights holders in DJ mixes, making this enormously popular music genre available on the world’s most popular streaming service for the very first time.
