Getty Images, a leading distributor/clearing house of film footage, stock photo images and other digital media, is launching Premium Playlist, a one-stop online service for film makers, advertising agencies and others looking to license music.

Premium Playlist resides on the company's Web site,, and already includes 1,000 songs, from such artists at Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth and Norah Jones through deals done with Warner/Chappell Music, Koch Records, Cherry Lane, Kobalt Music Group, Red Light Management Lionsgate and Nettwerk.

Moreover, the company plans to expand its content by striking non-exclusive deals with other majors and independent record labels, music publishers, management companies and other content owners to act as a synch licensing arm.

The new service resides alongside Getty Images Pump Audio, which also serves as a soundtrack and television commercial tool with a library of over 100,000 music titles from independent artists.

In the new service, Getty is putting together deals that allows them to represent songs on a non-exclusive basis, which will be shopped by 600 sales and rights clearance services representatives around the globe. Getty is already offering its other services to customers in over 100 countries, and plans to leverage its client base to shop music licenses to them too.

In deals, the content partner decides which songs or albums it will allow Getty to represent globally. In addition to synch licensing, some deals also include the masters too. A quick search through the site shows that often the content is listed with a price menu next to it.
